Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is an 8-bit, rock & roll, multi-period, anime´, kung fu teen romance – which is to say that it’s a genuinely unique movie experience. Short form: Pilgrim falls in love with a girl in what he thinks is a dream, meets her at a party and stalks her until they fall in love, then has to deal with her baggage [seven evil exes] as well as his own [the girl who dumped him went on to become a rock & roll goddess].
Grade: A+

There are clips and trailers from all kinds of films to be found if you bother to look. This clip from Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables features Jason Statham beating the snot out of an entire basketball pick up team. Does he hate basketball? Does he hate one [or all] of the players? The clip is taken completely out of context, so I guess we’ve got to figure that out for ourselves.
Anyroad, the thoroughly entertaining clip follows the jump.

A kid with an implausible dream, a neo-conservative Batman and Robin and a social network combine in unexpected ways to provide Kick-Ass [both the film and the character] with an eager-to-please rambunctiousness that makes it both infectious and scary.
Dave Lizewski [Aaron Johnson] has always wondered why no one ever just put on a costume and gone out to fight crime. His friends ridicule him, but he buys himself a flashy lime green wetsuit and a couple of police batons and gives it a shot – with the expected results. He is beaten, stabbed and run over.

The week I saw Kick-Ass was, not to be too hyperbolic, a Kick Ass week of Entertainment. It started with my last day Wondercon where I finally had time to catch How To Train A Dragon – Amazing movie, then when I got home from San Francisco, there was a copy of the season premiere of Doctor Who waiting for me, then that Wednesday I went to see a little movie called Kick-Ass. I was blown away by how much I loved this movie. It’s bold, over the top, funny and successfully blends a lot of different moods. This is how you do an adaptation! I didn’t need to know anything about the character or have read the source material to immediately understand what was going on and after watching the movie I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the Comic Book series it’s based on.
