BOOM! Studios today announced it has acquired the comic book and graphic novel publishing license to The Magicians, the award-winning, New York Times bestselling adult fantasy novel series created by Lev Grossman – with the first release to be The Magician’s: Alice’s Story.
Debuting in July 2019, The Magicians: Alice’s Story expands the mythology of The Magicians, the first novel in the series trilogy, through the perspective of lead character Alice Quinn before she joins Brakebills and embarks on an epic journey in the magical land of Fillory.
The Magicians (Syfy, Wednesdays, 9/8C) continues to delight with an episode that our protagonists back on their heels in light of new revelations. Meanwhile, The Beast sings – really, really well (and quite annoyingly).
Hotel Spa Potions opens with a shot of what looks like sugar-frosted Cheerios drifting through space, suggesting that no matter what we might be expecting, that’s not what we’re going to get.
Heading into Season 2 of Syfy’s The Magicians, this group of unlikely heroes have been thrust into even more dangerous and unfamiliar territory, and must draw upon their novice skills to defeat a threat that could destroy the magical world itself. Driven by power, revenge and survival, they learn that those who entered the hauntingly beautiful world of Fillory will never be the same as those who leave.
Season 2 of The Magicians is set to premiere on Wednesday, January 25. Check out the new trailer after the break.
Now that all that nasty exposition and character introduction has been done, The Magicians (Syfy, Mondays, 9/8C) moves forward with some major developments – most of which are, to say the least, troublesome.
Dean Fogg (Rick Worthy) is back – with glass eyes, and experimenting with styles of dark glasses (one pair calls to mind ‘the blues… and pinks’). After three months of study and practice, it’s time for the new students to learn their disciplines.
Syfy’s The Magicians (Mondays, 9/8C) is adapted from the bestselling trilogy by Lev Grossman. It follows Quentin Coldwater and his best friend Julia as they discover that magic exists and while one is accepted into a hidden magic school and the other is not.
Essentially, series creators Sera Gamble and John McNamara are approaching the series as dealing with magic in our real world, right now, in New York City. It doesn’t take long for the series to get to the magic, but it’s the characters who will make it work.
Syfy’s The Magicians – based on the novels by Lev Grossman – premieres in January, 2016. A lovely, weird teaser clip welcomes us to Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy. Check it out after the jump.
Syfy, in a twist, has pulled a couple of budding stars out of a hat with its announcement today that Jason Ralph and Sosie Bacon (pictured) have been cast as the leads in the network’s adaptation of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians.
Ralph, who recurs in upcoming crime series Aquarius, will play Quentin Coldwater, ‘a brilliant, withdrawn yet strangely compelling young man who feels like an outsider among his accomplished peers.’
Bacon will play Alice, ‘an intensely shy and delicately lovely young woman. Born of a magical but neglectful family, Alice is an outcast among her fellow students at Brakebills, but nonetheless emerges as the most brilliant magical practitioner in her class.’
The Magicians began production in New Orleans yesterday. For more, follow the jump.
