Sense8 is one of Netflix’s little talked about gems. It’s a weird little show that is stunning to look at in UltraHD and wears its heart on its sleeve. For good or bad it’s everything the Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski are known for – deeply personal journeys, social and political commentaries, a sometimes confusing story and gorgeous cinematography.
Netflix’s science fiction series Sense8 is about to premiere its second season of unique adventures as the Sensates work to stay out of the clutches of the mysterious Mr. Whispers – while struggling to figure out their identity – individually as well as a cluster.
Before season two premieres – on May 5th – Netflix has released thirteen photos from the series that may/may not be spoilery, but are definitely intriguing (as always, double click to embiggen).
Quite possibly the strangest new series anywhere, Sense8 posits a unique kind of human evolution where cells of eight people around the world are so completely connected that they can see, hear, and feel what each is thinking, feeling, doing.
Christmas is the one holiday that brings some people closer together and makes others feel more alone than they’ve ever been – making a Sense8 Christmas Special not so much a ‘why?’, but an ‘of course.’
Netflix has just released a trailer for the two-hour special – and a holiday message from Executive Producer/Co-Creator Lana Wachowski. Watch them both after the break..
Sense8: A Christmas Special premieres on Friday, December 23rd. Season two of Sense8 premiere on My 5, 2017.
It’s become the norm that summer presents us with an increasing number of good TV shows in the summer months. As someone who remembers when summer meant reruns, reruns and more reruns, this is absolutely a Good Thing – even if it means that there’s little to no breathing room between the regular and summer seasons to recover from one and prepare for the other.
This summer we’ve had all kinds of cool shows, dealing with all sorts of even cooler ideas – whether it’s fun new space operas; the quest to find out what comes after death; plumbing the memories of the recently deceased; evolving into a gestalt-like new kind of human; exploring the concepts of identity and personal ownership via cloning; examining what makes us human – and whether that can be replicated, or just watching the transformation of a decent guy into the ultimate ambulance chaser, there’s been plenty of great television for all tastes.
Sense8 is the new Netflix series from The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski that postulated a unique kind of human evolution – Sense8s. The eight lead characters are awakened to being part of a new level of consciousness that allows them to see, hear, and feel each other’s point of view, while also sharing each other’s thoughts, minds, skills.
The series is a hard R-rated wonder. Yes, there’s sex and violence but there’s also a sense of wonder and an exploration of what becoming Sense8 would be like – not to mention what it could mean for us as a species. I came to the series too late to give a timely review, but it is one of the best shows of the year and Sense8: Creating The World, a new 25-minute behind the scenes documentary is fascinating stuff.
In Sense8, the new Netflix series from The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski, eight people is different parts of the world somehow become joined on some new level – experiencing each other’s lives, emotions, memories. They can communicate with each other and even access each other’s skills.
Sense8 is the newest genre series from Netflix. Created by The Wachoswkis (The Matrix, Cloud Atlas) and J” Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, World War Z), it’s a mind-boggling concept.
Eight people in eight scattered parts of the world suddenly find themselves locked into each other’s minds – not one by one, but all at once! Eight minds, eight souls, eight secrets – each now has the knowledge, talents and skills of the others. Unfortunately, they now also all share the same extreme danger.
Sense8 premieres on Netflix on June 5th. Check out the trailer after the jump.
