Netflix has announced the acquisition of two new anime series – Ultraman and Kengan Ashura for 2019; the renewal of Aggretsuko for a second season, and the premiere dates for Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, Dragon Pilot, Castlevania: Season 2 and Cannon Busters.
Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (July 18th) Dragon Pilot (September 21st) and Castlevania: Season Two (October 26) will premiere this year. The remaining titles will debut in 2019.
Dragon Ball Super – which continues the action of Akira Toriyama’s famed fantasy adventure series – premieres this month from VIZ Media, along with new volumes of Anonymous Noise, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 3, Stardust Crusaders, D.Gray Man and the digital exclusive, Boys Over Flowers Season 2: Vol. 5.
Digital manga updates for May include new volumes for eight additional continuing VIZ Media series: Haikyu!! (Vol. 11), Maid-Sama! (Vol. 8), My Hero Academia (Vol. 8), My Love Story!! (Vol. 12), Nisekoi (Vol. 21), One Piece (Vol. 82), Toriko (Vol. 38), and Ultraman (Vol. 8).
Until May 8th, the complete run of My Hero Academia is on sale for $4.99 per volume.
VIZ Media is setting up shop at Anime Central 2016 – with panels on Sailor Moon and what’s coming up from the publisher, and a booth where fans can take advantage of convention pricing on any number of hot ticket item (an Ultraman bundle with Collectible Figure? Sounds good to me!) as well as pick up a free Death Note poster and spin the prize wheel to win fun items featuring popular VIZ properties.
Anime Central runs from May 20-22 in Rosemont, IL, at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare and the adjacent Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Follow the jump for details.
For the first time in what seems like forever, Ultraman will be back in the business of obstructing would be alien invaders/kaiju – or rather, his son will be carrying on the name.
The series – written by Eiichi Shimizu with artwork by Tomohiro Shimoguchi – features Shinjiro, son of Shin Hayata, the original Ultraman. Blessed (or cursed) with the ‘Ultraman Factor’ passed on from his father, Shinjiro develops amazing powers just a new threat reveals itself.
VIZ Media is releasing the first volume in the adventures of the new Ultraman on August 18th. For further details, follow the jump.
VIZ Media is bringing the creators of the new Ultraman manga – Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi – to comic-Con 2015, along with exclusive copies of Ultraman Vol. 1 (it won’t be in stores until August 18th).
Other plans include panels on Sailor Moon (VIZ is releasing the 200 episode complete Sailor Moon on Blu-ray for the first time), Shonen Jump: Past, Present and Future and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
VIZ exclusives and/or advance (pre-street) releases for Comic-Con 2015 include, among other things: copies of manga series like My Hero Academia Vol. 1, The Demon Prince of Momichi House Vol. 1, Maid-Sama! 2-in-1 Vol. 1, Tokyo Ghoul Vol. 2, and Ultraman Vol. 1 (available with a collectible Ultraman figure); Sailor Moon R T-shirts, and Doraemon Plush.

The creators of VIZ Media’s new Ultraman manga series, Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi, will be attending Comic-Con 2015 for their very first international appearance.
They will participate in the VIZ Media Presents Ultraman Panel on Friday, July 10th as well as four autograph signing sessions.
A special Ultraman bundle will be available for $30 at the VIZ Media booth. It will include an Ultraman figure from Japan and an advance copy of Ultraman #1. The new Ultraman series launches on August 18th both in print and digital. For further details follow the jump.
Back in the late sixties, while North Americans were enjoying William F. Dozier’s inspired camp version of Batman, Japan was enjoying the exploits of a much bigger superhero – Ultraman – in a show modestly entitled Ultraman – A Special Effects Fantasy Series! Though it was, basically, a man-in-a-rubber-suit monster series, it was fast-paced science fiction fun. After a false start elsewhere, Ultraman: The Complete Series has finally hit stores thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment.
