Scarlett Johansson plays The Major in Ghost in the Shell from Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures – now available on home video, including 4K UHD.
Ghost in the Shell is based on a Japanese manga by Masamune Shirow and a classic anime by Mamoru Oshii – both of which deal with the questions of what constitutes identity and whether humanity remains when the line between human and machine disappears.

Following the release of ten 10-15 second snippets of video from Ghost in the Shell, Paramount Pictures has released a full trailer – introduced by Scarlett Johansson.
Accusations of whitewashing have been at least partially addressed by named the main character simply The Major – but otherwise, the trailer definitely seems to be a reasonably faithful adaptation of the of the original anime feature.
The trailer suggests both the sumptuously technological world of the anime and the films that have been influenced by the anime – films like The Matrix and Ex Machina – as well as the films that influenced the anime (like Blade Runner).
The trailer follows the break. Feel free to just jump right in. Ghost in the Shell will be in theaters on March 31st, 2017.

Despite the fact that manga characters were generally designed as round-eyed and pale of skin (originally to attract a North American and European audience – everyone wants a global audience), much has been made (and complained) about the casting of Scarlett Johannson as Major Motoko Kusanagi in the live-action Ghost In The Shell.
Paramount has released five, count ’em five(!), very brief teasers for Ghost In The Shell, and they look crazy intriguing. See the other four after the break.
Ghost In The Shell opens on March 31st, 2017.
