Identity Theft takes a comedic look at one of the most frightening possibilities of the computer age. While it’s an odd choice of subject for a movie, let alone a comedy, the combination of the straight man’s straight man, Jason Bateman, with one of the hotter comedic talents in recent years, Melissa McCarthy, is inspired – despite the movie suffering from wildly disparate tones and uneven pacing.

Bridesmaids – Two Crap Trailers; One Pretty Darned Funny Movie!

I think I laughed maybe twice over the course of the two trailers for Bridesmaids. Despite this, I decided that I would check out the film for a couple of reasons – the producing directing team of Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, and the combination of Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy. It didn’t hurt that Wiig also co-wrote the film. The result is about 75% hilarious and 50% cringeworthy [there’s a 25% overlap…].

Mike and Molly Bring Fat Jokes to CBS!

CBS’ new multi-camera sitcom, Mike and Molly [Mondays, 9:30/8:30/C], could easily be The Courtship of Roseanne – and frankly, though it is sporadically funny, it is weird in that most of the best jokes come from the two overweight leads: Melissa McCarthy [Molly] and Billy Gardell [Mike]. The rest come from an acerbic waiter named Samuel [Nyambi Nyambi], who is so good that he could probably carry a show himself.
