Steven Spielberg’s first film with Disney, The BFG, features three brilliant performances and a horde of delightful visuals that are dulled more than a little by the film’s tendency to meander – dropping the pace to sluggish.

It doesn’t quite capture that unique balance of whimsy, wit and darkness that Roald Dahl’s work so great, either.

Gigantic Trailer: Disney’s The BFG!

When I first heard that Steven Spielberg was directed a movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG, my reaction was, ‘Of course!’

My reaction after seeing the first trailer for The BFG was, ‘why’d it take so long for Spielberg to do something by Dahl?’

Iron Curtain Trailer: Bridge of Spies!

Disney Joins Spielberg’s The BFG!

Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG has a new participant. Disney has joined the project as a co-producer and co-financier.

The film’s cast has also expanded to include Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Rebecca Hall, Penelope Wilton and others.

The BFG is Spielbverg’s first Disney-branded film as a director and is scheduled for a July 1, 2016 release. For more, follow the jump.

Spielberg Finds His Katie for Roald Dahl’s BFG!

Steven Spielberg has cast the key role of Katie for his adaptation of Roald Dahl’s BFG (Dahl’s personal favorite of his own stories).

Ruby Barnhill will play the young girl who becomes friends with the Big Friendly Giant and discovers the beauty and danger of Giant World.

Production on Roald Dahl’s BFG will begin in early 2015 with itsa premiere set for July 1st, 2016. For more, follow the jump.
