Sometimes it really is great to live in a big city like DC where there’s always something going on. This weekend Joe Walsh, Steven Tyler with his Nashville-based band, Loving Mary, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, The Fray, Aloe Blacc, and John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls will be on the mall rocking for a cause!
Facing Addiction, a new, national non-profit group that will serve as a voice for the over 85 million Americans impacted by addiction, is proud to organize the “UNITE to Face Addiction” rally, a free event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, October 4, 2015. To date, over 685 diverse partner organizations from around the country will join Facing Addiction to launch a first-of-its-kind campaign to let our nation know that addiction is preventable and treatable, that far too many of those affected have been incarcerated, and that people can and do get well. The concert will be held this Sun, Oct 4th, from 4 – 8pm.
Mixing the indie aesthetics and #healthgoth attitude of underground artists like Yung Lean, with the laid back beats of hip hop faves like Chance The Rapper, Allday is leading a new era in a genre all his own. The Adelaide rapper arrived with his new mixtape, Soft Grunge Love Rap via US label, Wind-up Records, with an exclusive premiere on NYLON and followed with hype from Clash Mag, AV Club, Fuse, Dazed and Confused and more. Now, the rapper makes his US LP debut on Bullett Magazine.
Here’s a little known Michelle factoid. Back in the day I worked at two local record stores Kemp Mill and the Wiz during X-mas break. We played Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchastra’s Christmas albums until me ears bled. So I’m strangely excited that they are bringing their Christmas rock opera The Ghosts of Christmas Eve to the Verizon Center on December 10th. It should be an amazing show. The show is presented by The Hallmark Channel. Tickets go on sale this Friday, September 18th.
Prince’s Rally 4 Peace concert in Baltimore benefit concert is going to stream for free on Tidal tomorrow night! Dayum! Of course I laid down $230 for a nice tasty floor seat, so I’ll be getting crazy in B’More live. In case you didn’t know Tidal is Jay Z’s and Kanye’s bid to take on Spotify and other streaming music services. They hope to be different than the other services by partnering with their super star friends to offer unique experiences. One hour of the concert will stream for free and you don’t need to sign up for Tidal to view it. They are going to ask for donations. See if you can spot me in the crowd!
After selling out her first show at DC’s Verizon Center, Ariana Grande’s – The Honey Moon Tour adds a second one to the mix. The new show will be Saturday, July 25th. Tickets went on sale Saturday, April 4th. As of now there are still plenty of seats left and surprisingly enough good seats are available at a “reasonable” price – under $120 for section 101 tickets. I’m almost tempted to purchase. I love me some Ariana.
New Kids On The Block are stepping into the ring for 2015. The pop phenoms stopped by Good Morning America this morning to announce THE MAIN EVENT, a summer headlining tour featuring very special guests, Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum selling artists TLC and Nelly. NKOTB surprised viewers with a special reveal of TLC and a personal message from Nelly (who is currently overseas with the armed forces). The groups hinted at possible collaborations and other exciting possibilities while on the road this summer, sending fans into a frenzy across social media. The tour, promoted by Live Nation, kicks-off on May 1 in Las Vegas, Nev. and will stop in over 30 cities across North America including Washington, D.C. on June 10 at Verizon Center.
After igniting a twitter frenzy following her arena tour announcement, the official dates for Grammy-nominated Iggy Azalea’s The Great Escape Tour, presented by AEG Live, have been announced. One of the most-anticipated tours of the year, the Great Escape Tour will travel across North America beginning April 14 in Fresno, CA and make stops in Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, Toronto, Washington, D.C. and Chicago before wrapping in Austin, TX on May 24. Joining Iggy on tour will be multi-talented recording artist and actor, Nick Jonas as special guest. In addition, also joining as support acts are R&B/Hip-Hop favorites Tinashe and DJ Wizz Kidd.
I hate it when PR people make announcements the day of an event. I mean what’s the point? I’ve repeatedly said that I love the Jingleball concept, you get to see all the top touring acts of the year in one place on one night. What’s not to love? In any case Jingleball 2014 is going to stream live on Yahoo tonight! Performers includeTaylor Swift, Maroon 5, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell, 5 Seconds of Summer, Calvin Harris, OneRepublic, Jessie J, Meghan Trainor, Charli XCX, Shawn Mendes, Rita Ora, and Rixton and Nick Jonas. You can watch the stream right here at 8pm EST!
Not to brag or anything, ok, I’m bragging but I have floor seats (that I, gasped, bought) for DC’s JingleBall show on Monday. Check back here for a full report later next week.
Ok, I know I suck, over the summer I had a chance to catch alternative rock band Big Something and the jazz instrumental fusion band Tauk at Washington, DC’s Hamilton Ballroom a few weeks ago. It was my first time at the venue and hopefully not the last. It is set next door to a hotel and features an upscale restaurant upstairs and has a large basement ballroom that serves food, drink and occasional music act. The acoustics in the place were pretty solid.
