The Fosters return for season 3 on June 8, 2015!  The show continues to follow San Diego police officer Stef Foster (Teri Polo) and her wife school administrator Lena Adams (Sherri Saum) as they take care of Stef’s biological son Brandon (David Lambert) and twins Jesus (Jake T. Austin/Noah Centineo) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Jude (Hayden Byerly).  We see the introduction of Stef’s ex-husband and patrol partner Mike (Danny Nucci) adopt a new son AJ.  Problems seem to be neverending in the Foster household and it is up to Stef and Lena to keep the family together.  Maia Mitchell took time to chat with us about this exciting new season.

Maia Mitchell  is an Australian actress and singer who got her start in local theatre productions.  At the age of 12, she was cast in the Australian children’s tv show “Mortified”, and her acting career took off.  She went on to “Trapped”, “Castaway”, and “K-9”.  She was discovered by Disney Channel and was cast in her first US tv show “Jessie”.  She made her film debut as McKenzie in “Teen Beach Movie”.  Her on-screen talent has brought her notice in Hollywood and among her fans.  This talented actress has been nominated for the Teen Choice Awards as best female tv star and dramatic tv actress every year since 2013!

During a recent set visit of “The Fosters”, I met with Maia to talk about season 3.  She discusses Callie’s effort to “be a regular kid”.  She points out the changing relationship between Callie and her father, Sophie, and Jude.  She also reveals details about a trip to Mexico with Brandon Foster in an upcoming episode. As Maia puts it, Callie is “like an alley cat who is constantly falling and getting up”.  Get a behind-the-scenes look at “The Fosters” through this exciting interview with Maia Mitchell!

Compared to the conservative days of “Leave It to Beaver”, television has gone through many changes, including widening its boundaries in racial and gender diversity. Despite shows like  “Will And Grace”, “Modern Family” as well as “Fresh Off The Boat” and “Blackish”, much of television still remains conservative in terms of story content. Then there’s “The Fosters”.  An inter-racial lesbian couple adopting children of various ethnicities certainly pushes the boundaries of diversity, but in a positive way. In the end, even though this does draw on diversity and pushes storylines with what people would deem controversial, at the end of the day, it just shows that we are all no different. We all laugh. We all cry. We all take care of somebody and have somebody take care of us. We are all family.
