GKIDS and Fathom Events are partnering for Studio Ghibli Fest 2019 -the third annual celebration of animated film from one of the world’s finest animation studios.
Studio Ghibli Fest 2019 will feature nine films from the studio’s library – ranging from stunning masterworks like Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to more intimate titles like Kiki’s Delivery Service and The Secret World of Arrietty.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Hayao Miyazki’s first film, Castle in the Sky. It’s also the 20th anniversary of what many consider to be his magnum opus, Princess Mononke.
To celebrate these anniversaries, VIZ Media will release full-color picture books for each film in December.
The new books capture the magic of the legendary studio’s animated films with easy-to-read text, full-color pictures direct from the film, and a family-friendly oversized hardcover format aimed at readers of all ages.
On Hayao Miyazaki’s birthday, GKIDS and Fathom Events will celebrate by bringing the acclaimed director’s masterpiece, Princess Mononke, back to select American theaters for two nights: January 5, 2017 (with English dubbed) and January 9, 2017 (in the original Japanese with English subtitles).
Earlier this week, VIZ Media announced that manga artist Takeshi Obata would be attending the 2014 New York Comic Con. Now the continent’s largest publisher of manga and anime has released its schedule of panels and a list of NYCC 2014 exclusives.
Among the exclusives are an NYCC14 Sailor Moon T-shirt coins,the Voltron: From Days Long Ago 30th Anniversary Celebration book and the Hello Kitty Hello 40 Commemorative Art book.

Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke was a revelation to North American audiences when it premiered in 1997 – captivating mainstream audiences who had never heard the word anime. Its theme of nature versus technology was – and remains – topical, and is considered to be a genuine masterpiece.
VIZ Media’s Studio Ghibli imprint is releasing a new edition of The Art of Princess Mononoke, a comprehensive look at the creation of the film, on August 26th. This new hardcover edition contains interviews, concept sketches, character art and finished animation cels as it details the creation of the film from conception to screen. VIZ Media as acquired North American rights to publish two Studio Ghibli Library titles in celebration of Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece, Princess Mononoke. The Art of Princess Mononoke will be released in August and Princess Mononoke: The First Story – the original Princess Mononoke story created by Miyazaki in 1980 – will follow in October.
The rerelease of The Art of Princess Mononoke will feature an all-new translation and presentation – and will include interviews, concept sketches, character art and finished cel art. Princess Mononoke: The First Story will be ‘an oversized, lavishly illustrated storybook featuring original watercolor art’ Miyazaki.
