A few days ago I sat in on a teleconference Q&A with Meaghan Martin and Nicholas Braun who play Bianca and Cameron on ABC Family’s sitcom 10 Things I Hate About You [new eps beginning Monday, 8/7C] based on the hit movie of the same name. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the two are both dedicated to their craft and smart as whips. The Q&A went far a field and the two were never thrown – and they weren’t shy about letting us know they were having a good time: the laughter was spontaneous and frequent.

One last season’s summer shows, ABC Family’s The Middleman, had me at the tentacle monster and reeled me in at the gorilla gangster. Javier [call him Javi] Grillo-Marxuach’s series – adapted from the graphic novel that was adapted from an unsold TV script [still with me?] achieved something that no other comics-to-movies/TV has ever done – the pilot script contained somewhere in the vicinity of 90% of the script that Javi wrote in 1988. The result was a fast-paced, character-driven and pop culture-fuelled super saga of a hero and his brand spanking new sidekick as they saved the world from villains that appeared to have jumped out of the pages of a comic – which is exactly what they were!

After viewing the extras for the DVD release of the recently cancelled ABC Family series, The Middleman, I came to a conclusion that was confirmed by a quick peek at imdb. Middleman creator Javier Grillo-Marxuach [pictured, above, with series star Natalie Morales] is a fanboy! I had the opportunity to interview Javi [as he prefers to be called] about all things Middleman. Alas, we had to stop before I could ask him about such things as the inspiration for the series’ episode titles [one of the extras revelas that it's an homage to the titles of the Robert Ludlum novels he read as a kid], the decision to use chirons [those text scrolls that identify time and place and such] and the plethora of extras on the set. We did get through the process the series went from unsold pilot, to cult hit comic and, finally, to the small screen – as well as toss in a plug or his upcoming new series, Day One.

Last but not least in the series of interviews behind the scenes of 10 Things I Hate About You, the beautiful Lindsey Shaw discusses her time on the show. The show premiered last night and will be on on Tuesdays on ABC Family, 8/7c.
What’s the difference between being on Aliens in America or this show?
No difference at all really. No [laughs], a huge difference. Claire was self-centered and bitchy and completely concerned with popularity, much like Bianca is. She’s like an older version of Bianca. And Kat, she is self-centered for very different reasons. She doesn’t realize it. In fact, in this episode, her father finally tells her how self-centered she is. And she’s like, “What? No, I didn’t get it.”

In part four of our interviews from the set of 10 Things I Hate About You, I interviewed Larry Miller, who plays Bianca and Kat’s father, and Meaghan Jette Martin. Did you know that Miller is a blogger himself? Check him out at larrymillerhumor.com. Tomorrow, in our final part of the interview series, the interview with Lindsey Miller, who plays Kat.
Don’t forget to check out the series premiere tomorrow on ABC Family at 8/7c!

We met with Ethan Peck, who plays Patrick on ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You at 25 Degrees restaurant at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The grandson of Gregory Peck, Ethan took time out on his day off from filming to have breakfast with us and give us the scoop on filming, his time in school at NYU, and his inspirations.

Were you a fan of the movie 10 Things I Hate About You? Do you remember when it came out?
Yeah, that was ’99, right? And I definitely saw it when I was, I guess, 13, 14-years old. When I got the audition, I hadn’t even recalled the film at the time. They were [mentioning it was a remake], and I couldn’t quite remember what it was, but it’s a great movie. And it’s really exciting to be working under that franchise.
