“A Lot Like Love”

“A Lot Like Love” is a slight, lackluster romantic comedy about two people who intersect every couple of years over the course of six years. Yet another instance of ‘if you’ve seen the trailer, you have essentially seen the movie’. And, in this case, the trailer is better than the movie since the movie is […]

“The Phantom of the Opera”

“The Phantom of the Opera” is a sumptuous (but overlong) musical about the man who lived beneath the Paris opera house – with an attractive cast, including Minnie Driver who has a field day as a diva. Should be seen on a large screen. (Have not seen it on stage and still prefer the 1943 […]

Spooks have another go

For those who have wrapped themselves up in series such as 24 and Alias, the BBC has a tasty import for you. A&E has been showing edited versions of BBC’s MI-5(known as Spooks across the pond). The only thing about the A&E version is that a good 15 minutes of the story is sacrificed for […]

Tamagawa Taiko

Last Sunday I was privileged to see a performance by Tamagawa Taiko & Dance. This troupe is made up of students from Japan’s Tamagawa performing arts university and these kids ROCKED. This week is Sakura Week in Philadelphia – Sakura = Cherry Blossom – and there are a lot of Japanese -themed events taking place […]

“Sin City”

“Sin City” is a graphic, gross, gritty, grotesque, gruesome adult comic book come to life. There are intertwined stories told about (Ba)sin City, which isn’t a very good place to live. Very stylistic, violent, and different. Definitely NOT a date movie and there are no ‘dozing-off’ interludes. GRADE = “B”

“Sahara”

“Sahara” is a tiring, seemingly endless adventure (over 2 hours long). The opening credits listed four writers which was an omen. The cast may have had a good time, but you probably won’t. Great photography, pyrotechnics, and locales. GRADE = “C”
