Harry Potter Goes 2-D!

Harry & the Doppelgangers

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 will not be released in 3-D, according to a press release from Warner Brothers.

"Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality,” the studio said. "We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey."

I’m betting that, following the critical and popular backlash against the shoddy 3-D conversion of Clash of the Titans,” the studio elected to take no chances with alienating the fans of its most profitable franchise. Good for them for making the smart play.

The studio does plan to release Part 2 in 3-D, though there’s not, as yet, word on whether it will release Part 1 in 3-D at some future point.

  1. Good! 3D sucks, I thought this was being shot in 3D and not some half-assed post converted garbage? How much you want to bet they will release the 3D version around the time part 2 comes out and then have two or three DVD releases. This is nothing more than a cheap money grab to squeeze even more money out of fans.
