Fox Orders Scream Queens Straight To Series!

Paley Center For Media's Paleyfest 2011 Event Honoring "Glee"

The creators of American Horror Story have struck again! Ryan Murphy and Brad Felchuk – along with Ian Brennan – have sold a fifteen episode horror-comedy series called Scream Queens to FOX.

The series is planned as anthology series with dual female leads in new stories each season. The first season will take place on a college campus where a series of murders has everyone running scared – and premiere in Fall, 2015.

Though the press release (following the jump) doesn’t say so explicitly, the series title calls to mind such legendary scream queens like Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer and Jamie Lee Curtis. It’s a proud tradition going all the way back to Fay Wray in King Kong.

IN A STRAIGHT-TO-SERIES ORDER, FOX GREENLIGHTS FIRST COMEDY-HORROR ANTHOLOGY, “SCREAM QUEENS”

Series Hails From GLEE Creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan

15-Episode First Installment to Premiere Fall 2015

FOX has ordered SCREAM QUEENS, a new genre-bending comedy-horror anthology series, it was announced today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group. The series, produced by 20th Century Fox Television, is from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Dante Di Loreto, the executive producers of GLEE and “American Horror Story.”

The first installment in the new anthology series revolves around a college campus which is rocked by a series of murders.

FOX has ordered 15 one-hour episodes, which are scheduled to begin production in the spring and premiere in Fall 2015 on FOX. New settings and storylines will be featured in subsequent seasons of the anthology series.

“I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing SCREAM QUEENS,” commented Murphy. “We hope to create a whole new genre – comedy-horror – and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to Dana and Gary for their enthusiastic support.”

“One of our top priorities at the network has been to get Ryan Murphy to create a new series for FOX.  We loved every element of the pitch for this show — the genre-bending concept, which blends true horror with big comedic moments; the diverse and unforgettable characters; and reuniting the phenomenal creative team that delivered GLEE,” said Walden and Newman. “SCREAM QUEENS will go straight to series. It’s a huge commitment and an expression of our faith in Ryan. We are ecstatic to have him, along with Brad, Ian and Dante, as our partners on this exciting ride.”

SCREAM QUEENS is produced by 20th Century Fox Television in association Ryan Murphy Television. The series is co-created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Murphy, Falchuk, Brennan and Dante Di Loreto will serve as executive producers.
