Lots of casting talk on this week’s GeekScholars Movie News podcast beginning with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and potentially Hugh Jackman, all returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Also, the first batch of actors are auditioning for the lead role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Also, the crew weighs on the news that Cate Blanchett is looking to play the evil step-mom in a new live-action adaptation of Cinderella.
Also on this show, the 2012 Awards Season officially kicks off, and the GeekScholars discuss the films on the short list for the Best Visual Effects Academy Award, and the nominees for Best Picture at the Film’s Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are a great way to find out which awesome films you may have missed this year, as many of them only came out in limited release.
From there, the GeekScholars host another installment of their ‘Unsung Heroes’ segment, honoring the work and contributions of lesser known actors and actresses. Included in this episode are tributes to Giovanni Ribisi, Victor Garber, Tim Blake Nelson, and CCH Pounder.
Finally, the crew reviews and grades the trailer for A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, a dark comedy featuring Charlie Sheen and Bill Murray, and there’s definitely no consensus on how they feel about it!
