“What happened after that, Mama,� little Nicole cried out, “Did Grandmama and Grandpapa marry that night?�
Danielle shook her head. “I am afraid not, Nicole. It so happened that your grandpapa was called away on important business with the Guards that night. Unfortunately, they didn’t marry for another week, what with Grandmama’s parent’s showing up with the Duke and Duchess du Bois. �
“They came back?� Henri asked.
“Of course they did, Henri, “ a new voice called out from the doorway, “they wanted to settle in and see everything. So we had to wait a week until everything
was normal again.�
“GRANDPAPA!� the two children called out in unison, and ran over to greet them. Behind Auguste was Nicole and behind her were the King and Queen of France, Francis and Marie. In back of him was Henry, who walked over to join Danielle.
“So,� Auguste said, bending down and touching the children’s noses. “Now you have heard the story, would you like to hear more?�
The children jumped up and down. “Please, Grandpapa.�
Auguste smiled. “Well, it is way past your bedtime and we’ll discuss these things tomorrow. Right now, off to bed with you.�
“Do you promise?� Henri called out as he was being herded into the bedroom
“Of course little ones,� Henry said, “Grandmama and Grandpapa will explain it all. Now you march yourselves to bed this instant.�
