Nicole smiled, curtsied and then stood up.

The King smiled. “I heard that your parents are abroad, something about visiting relatives?�
Nicole nodded. “That is the way of the world, Your Majesty. They should return next Friday.�
The King smiled and nodded. “How is my soon to be granddaughter then?�
“You mean Marie,� Nicole said, smiling at him, “She is just fine, milord.�
Louis laughed. “Splendid! Splendid.�
He gestured toward a table under the shade. “Sit down, Nicole. I have so many questions to ask you.�
Nicole sat down wondering what the old man was talking about.
“I only came here to see if Captain Auguste de Barbarac was here,� she asked.
