The Crossroads of Love 10

chapter 10

Sarah was frustrated from all the planning ‘they’ were doing for ‘her’ wedding. She hadn’t a moments silence for a long time so she called Ryan and told him that she was going to head out to her parents for the weekend. Even Karen was better than Ryan and his mother. Ofcourse Karen and her father instantly had fallen in love with Ryan. She hated remembering that fateful day.

Flashback………

“He is absolutely charming Sarah, he’s secure and handsome and well he is just what YOU needed. Now finally you can place your two feet on the ground! And stop dreaming with false hopes of becoming an actress.” Karen said.

“Ahuh, MY dreams of being an actress are far from over Karen, but for now I will ofcourse just keep my career as a fantasy writer.” Sarah gritted her teeth and tried to sound calm while saying this. Karen always seemed to say the wrong things infront of people and now that her parents where meeting Ryan’s she definately felt humiliated.

“Awe common honey, you know she ONLY means well, besides after we get married you really won’t have much to worry about. I will take good care of you and since I AM well endowed, economically speaking, you don’t really have to work anymore Sarah. Besides I would love it if you stayed home and just took care of our child and ofcourse me, your beloved. ” Ryan said as he patted Sarah’s knees while everyone else smiled and nodded in agreement with Ryan. Sarah felt as if she were a puppet and everyone around her pulled her strings but her!

Back in present time…………..

Sarah nodded her head knowing her parents would ask her one hundred and one questions about why she was there to visit but to her suprise Karen was not there! She had gone to visit her mom. Only her dad and Toby were left at home and that made her feel so much better. Just the three of them alone for the weekend. She wouldn’t have to answer too many questions since Karen made most of them anyways!

“Oh dad it’s so great to see you again. I have missed you so much.” She hugged him with almost teary eyes. Toby ran to her,” Hey sis, how’s it going, seen any Goblin King’s lately?”

Sarah father laughed at Toby’s comment, he now being almost 20 years old was very charming. But Sarah knew he was for real. Their father went upstairs to take Sarah’s things to her old room which was still untouched because Toby wanted it that way. And ofcourse Karen did as Toby asked.

“So, seen any Goblin King’s lately, Sarah?”

“Really Toby, those are just children’s stories. Jareth is NOT real.”

Toby smiled,”Well if you say so Sarah, but that old book in your room called The Labyrinth somehow makes me feel at home. I wonder why?”

Sarah smiled nervously and hugged him around his neck,”Shut up you twurp, don’t know why you are rummaging through my old stuff! And if it makes you feel at home it’s because I used to read it to you all the time when you were just a kid! Now shut up about Goblin King’s and tell me about school, and who’s this Amber I keep hearing about?”

Toby and Sarah laughed at talked while their dad made them lasagna Sarah’s favorite. They had a great time that Friday evening. Sarah had missed them very much. To think they were just hours away. But yet she always felt so far from them. But now she was home. Later that evening after she washed the dishes they used for dinner she went up to her room feeling nostalgic. She looked all around her stuff and she looked at herself in the mirror ready to call her friends and even Jareth but she remembered the promise she had made. She began to weep, crying for Jareth. She knew she had lost him. She felt pain and sorrow.

In The Underground……….

Jareth was in Gertrude’s bed as she lay there asleep he thoguht it strange she did not take of her upper clothing but he figured she was too ashamed of her swollen tummy so he let her be. Gertrude was asleep on top of his arm when he could hear his name being called out. He got up slowly and changed into his clothing. He conjured up a crystal and began to see Sarah crying frantically almost banging her hands on her vanity. He was just about to transform himself to go to her when he heard Gertrude rustle around her bed.

“Jareth? Jareth my dear, what are you doing?

“Oh nothing, just checking in on my royal subjects my dear, mustn’t keep the kingdom in shambles all the time now shall we dear. Now that our baby shall be born soon, I think I shall make some changes to our kingdom.”

Gertrude sat up happy knowing in her hearts of hearts that Jareth was lying but she wasn’t going to show it. Even if Sarah married she would never forget Jareth and so she knew she had to keep an eye on him always. She had to!
