TELEVISION: NBC 2009-10 Schedule Features More New Content; Shared Time Period Strategy!

“NBC has picked up more scripted shows than last season even with “The Jay Leno Show” at 10 p.m.,” said Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. The network also introduced what it called “shared time period strategy,” in which a fall series, say, Heroes, would run all original episodes leading into the Olympics and Chuck would assume the same time period – also with all original eps, following the Olympics.

NBC has added four new dramas, three new comedies and an unscripted series.

Dramas include: Trauma, Day One, Parenthood and Mercy. Comedies include: SNL Weekend Update Thursday, Community and 100 Questions. The unscripted series is Marriage Ref. As previously announced, The Jay Leno Show will fill the 10-11 p.m. timeslot Monday through Friday.

Returning hour-long shows include: the aforementioned Heroes and Chuck, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Southland. Returning half-hour series include: Parks & Recreation, The Office and 30 Rock. Magazine Dateline NBC also returns, along with unscripted series The Biggest Loser, and The Celebrity Apprentice. On the sports front, NBC continues to air NFL Sunday Football and Football Night in America, plus the 2010 Winter Olympics [February 12-28, 2010]. Friday Night Lights is not on the fall or winter schedule because of the nature of the deal NBC worked out with DirecTV – the show won’t air on the network until Summer 2010.

My Name is Earl and Medium appear to have been cancelled – though it may yet find a new home on ABC or Fox, while CBS may be considering adding Medium to its Friday night schedule where it could work well with Ghost Whisperer.
