New Thor Movie Picture

Here is a look at the brand new photo from the upcoming Thor movie. So far I’m not thrilled with anything I’ve seen. After the way Marvel treated Edward Norton last week, I think Marvel Pictures is getting too big for their britches.

Variety is reporting that the man who made Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and the crew of the Serenity legends of sci fi and fantasy, one Joss Whedon, has been named as director of The Avengers.

Following two Iron Man movies and single films featuring The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and The Mighty Thor, The Avengers has Col. Nick Fury bringing the characters together, as The Avengers, to face an alien threat.

Natalie Portman

I’ve always liked Natalie Portman and thought she and Ewan McGregor were the best things in Episodes I – III. She’s been cast to play Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest in the upcoming Marvel Thor Movie. The official press release is after the break.

Director Kenneth Branagh and Marvel Comics have found the man they want to step into the role of The Mighty Thor and have cast Australian born Chris Hemsworth as the hammer swinging action hero.

Hemsworth, whom movie viewers have recently seen as the heroic, but ill-fated George Kirk in the new Star Trek movie, is a ruggedly handsome 26 year old actor who is no stranger to action roles in movies. He is set to pick up Thor’s Hammer and step into the lead role when the movie goes into production in early January of 2010.

In this live action movie version of the long running Marvel comic, Thor, Hemsworth will play the slightly disabled Dr. Donald Blake who discovers that his alter ego is the none other than the ancient Norse god of thunder (and Thursday),
