Ricky Gervais hosted the 67th Golden Globes Awards with the same prickly disregard for fakery he displayed when he appeared on The Tonight Show this past week [where he suggested that he plug all his projects up front in case NBC kicked Conan out a wee bit early].

When he was not-so-gently ribbing stars like Mel Gibson [“I like a drink as much as the next man – except when the next man is Mel Gibson”] and Meryl Streep whose double nominations got one of the best bits of the night [something about being “greedily nominated” for It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia], he was flogging the DVD releases for the complete series of the British original version of The Office and his latest film, The Invention of Lying – or his upcoming animated series, The Ricky Gervais Show [on HBO].

Director Martin Scorsese is receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes. The award will be presented to Scorsese at the 67th annual Globes on Jan. 17, 2010.

Scorsese turns 67 next week and is an Academy Award winner for directing on ”The Departed” and a two-time Golden Globe winner for that film and ”Gangs of New York.” He also was nominated for Oscars and Globes for such films as ”Raging Bull,” ”Goodfellas” and ”The Aviator.”

Past winners of the DeMille award include last year’s recipient, Steven Spielberg, along with Warren Beatty, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Douglas.

Nominations for the Globes, Hollywood’s second-biggest film honors after the Oscars, will be revealed on December 15.

When Mick struts onstage, he resembles a Gerry [Thunderbirds] Anderson marionette on crack, while good ol’ Keef looks like he might not make it to his next solo – but The Rolling Stones can still rock the vast majority of today’s bands under the table. Martin Scorsese’s Shine A Light is more of a concert film than a documentary – though it does cut to some ironic and even prophetic clips from the early Stones.

Every year, The Kennedy Center honors five artists from all parts of the creative spectrum: film, music, art, theatre… This evening, CBS presents The 30th Annual Kennedy Center Honors [9/8C], hosted by Caroline Kennedy. This isn’t something Eclipse would normally cover, but tonight the Center honors a concert pianist/teacher, a comedian/writer/actor/philosopher, a filmmaker, a soul singer and a rock & roll legend.
