DAVID ARQUETTE, MICKEY MOUSE

Actor David Arquette, who voices the role of Skully on Disney Junior’s “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” kicked off Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA on August 19 by helping Disney announce the donation of $500,000 and 8 million Disney Publishing Worldwide books to First Book, a national nonprofit organization that provides new books to children in need.

CARS2_firstlookimage

The sequel for which I had the highest hopes let me down. Cars 2 is first time Pixar has failed to knock it out of the park. Instead of bringing back all the characters [caracters?] we know and love from the original, the citizens of Radiator Springs are relegated to less than cameos as John Lasseter’s sequel tries to turn Mater into James Bond.

MUPPETS Teaser Poster

With teaser trailers reminiscent of a traditional romance and The Hangover: Part 2, it’s pretty plain to see that The Muppets are back with a vengeance – and they’ve brought along Sweetums and Crazy Harry! Life is good!

Muppets

Ok, I’ve spent this entire week being so very, very pissed off at the folks that run CinemaCon that I was going to completely ignore the few presentations that I actually did get into. But I figured, I’m here and hey I can write this horrible experience off my taxes next year so I might as well talk about Disney’s CinemaCon Presentation – even though I was hassled by some asshole security guard.

The big news to come out of the event was Disney gave us more details on Monsters, Inc 2. The sequel is going to be called Monsters University and will be a prequel to the hit film. The movie will show us how Sulley and Mike first met at Monsters University. Of course they hate each other on sight. We’ll see how they overcome their hatred and go onto become the best friends that we know and love.  Larry The Cable Guy (I’m sorry, I just don’t understand why he’s popular) came out to introduce Cars 2. We got a chance to watch a good 26 minutes of the movie and see almost all of the new characters in action. After the Cars 2 footage, Rob Marshall and Jerry B. (who loved me at last year’s WonderCon) came out to set up the 15 minute clip of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Tron: Legacy Movie Review

I have to admire the folks at Disney. When they want to market a movie, they market a movie. Tron: Legacy followed me around all year, whether it was the big Tron Press Conference at Wondercon, to their Comic-Con panel, to their weekly Tron emails and video releases the movie was in my face. Even with all that marketing and pr work I somehow managed to avoid having all of that material “spoil” me because, shhhh…. Don’t tell the Disney PR folk, but I simply didn’t watch most of it, I posted a lot of the clips and I missed the Press Conferences (not on purpose, just had conflicts and sent other people to cover them). So despite their best efforts I walked into the movie fairly “cold.”

My concerns going in where A) it’s in 3D and I’ve made it clear how much I loathe the format and B) Tron just has never been my thing. The first thing you should know is the screening was on iMax 3D. It’s extremely rare the studio screens a movie in iMax so that was a real treat. Yeah we had the “fake” Max but the screen was large and beautiful with an amazing audio system.  The 3D was projected flawlessly so I didn’t have a single complaint in that department so I was able to actually focus on the movie.

Tangled Movie Review

Tangled is a strange animal. It wants to be a modern animated film with all of the modern trappings but it’s also Disney’s 50th Animated film, so it has to show both sides of the mouse house – it’s roots as an innovative in animation and wholesome good fun, while also showing us that Disney Animation is moving forward and competing with that “young” upstart Pixar Animation.
