Not even a skilled Baywatch lifeguard could resuscitate The Hasselhoffs after the first two episodes aired to dismal ratings.

On Friday, December 10th, A&E announced that that were removing the reality show The Hasselhoffs from their Sunday night schedule. The Hasselhoffs featured former Baywatch and Knight Rider star David Hasselhoff and his two daughters, who are aspiring to get into showbiz. According to The Nielsen Co. the first episode was seen by 718,000 viewers but that the audience hit low tide at 505,000 the second week.  This ratings drop translates to meaning that more than half the people who watched the show  “Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels,”  which preceded The Hasselhoffs turned away from it in droves once Simmons show, which has an audience of 1.4 million, was over.

There are eight completed episodes of The Hasselhoffs that will remain unaired as A&E has no plans at this time to bring the series back.

Available on DVD as of August 31, 2010

When the teen angst drama One Tree Hill , created by Mark Schwahn premiered on September 23, 2003, audiences were introduced to the denizens of the fictional North Carolina town of Tree Hill.

One Tree Hill, which was filmed on location in Wilmington, NC to give a more realistic feel, followed the lives of follows half-brothers, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) an aspiring writer, and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) a high school basketball jock with dreams of a pro career. With heavy focus on the high school years of the Scott brothers and their rocky relationship with their father Dan Scott (Paul Johansson) and their respective romantic entanglements with Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton),  Haley James(Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) One Tree Hill ran on steady course of ratings success for The CW Network (a merger of WB Network with UPN).

Season Five of One Tree Hill saw pivotal changes for the drama series, as creator Mark Schwahn made the decision to move the characters out of high school by advancing the timeline four years into the future, thrusting the characters into adulthood. Season Six saw the departure of Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton and a new direction was in order for season Seven. Now with that seventh season available on DVD, One Tree Hill continues to explore the journeys of its beloved characters, while seamlessly introducing new favorites. As the series jumps ahead 14 months, these new relationships infuse the history and change the lives of those who live there. Through it all, these friends and family members realize that life always leads you right where you belong.

Zach Cregger, an Arlington VA native who has most recently spent his time in New York City working as a writer/producer and actor in the comedy troupe Whitest Kids U’ Know, has been signed on to join the cast of the new NBC comedy series, Friends With Benefits.  Cregger, who starred in the 2009 comedy movie Miss March, will be joining the half hour, single camera comedy in the role Aaron a nerdy but cute, hopeless romantic who is worth $12 million after selling an algorithm to Google.

Friends With Benefits, which also stars Danneel Harris, Ryan Hansen, Alexandra Holden and Andre Holland, explores modern-day romance through the eyes of five friends, each looking for “the one” but in the meantime settling for “friends with benefits.”  Cregger describes his character as someone with the smarts to make a ton of money but isn’t so smart about figuring out the complexities of romance.  “He’s a total spazz and he’s gonna be really fun to play.”

Friends with Benefits, which was created by  Brian Grazer and is executive produced by David Nevins, David Dobkin, Jeff Kleeman and Scott Neustadter, begins principle filming in two weeks and is set to become a 2011 mid season replacement on the NBC schedule.

Zach Cregger is repped by William Morris Endeavor (WME) Entertainment

Since it’s officially “Summer Blockbuster’ season, let’s start out by taking a look at what’s already in the theaters before we take a look at what’s currently in production.

Top five movies at the box office right now are:

1. Toy Story 3 – Tom Hanks, Tim Allen

2. Grown Ups – Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Kevin James

3. Knight and Day – Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard

4. The Karate Kid – Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson

5. The A-Team – Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley

Judging by these box office results, Tom Cruise and Jackie Chan are both getting the stuffing kicked out of them by a bunch of beloved Toys. Out of these five movies, I’ve seen Knight and Day, The Karate Kid and The A-Team. The Karate Kid reboot left me wondering why they bothered. Other than an absolutely powerhouse performance by Jaden Smith, and I firmly believe he is going to be a huge star for a long time to come, I found the reboot to be tedious and without the storytelling power of the original. I like Jackie Chan, but have to be honest and say I found him to be dull and lifeless in this movie.  On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed both the A-Team and Knight and Day. Finding both movies to be satisfying action adventures to while away a hot summer afternoon with.

Now, onto the in production news.

Actress Danneel Harris (bottom left) is having a very good month of May. It started out with the stunning 31 year old actress being once again included in the Maxim Hot 100 List, this time coming in at #72 on the Hot List.  This weekend she had her new NBC pilot series, Friends With Benefits picked up for the regular fall TV schedule and she attended a wedding–her own.

Harris, who recently appeared in the highly successful film, The Back Up Plan, stars in the half hour single camera comedy Friends With Benefits as Dr. Sara Maxwell. Maxwell is a single woman who is just looking for a man to settle down with and raise a family.

While her character will be looking for “Mr. Right” in Friends With Benefits, Danneel Harris has apparently already found her’s. She wed Supernatural actor Jensen Ackles in Dallas, TX this weekend. Harris and Ackles dated for three years before he proposed to her last October.

“Friends With Benefits”, whose storyline revolves around a group of twenty-something singles as they navigate the difficult, and often confusing, world of dating, was developed for television by Emmy winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind). The series also stars Ryan Hanson as Ben Weymouth, a man who is on the hunt for the perfect woman who meets his unique set of standards, Ian Reed Kesler as the womanizing Hoon and Jessica Lucas as straight shooter Riley who are all distracted with their own dating trials and tribulations.

NBC released a statement that the role of the character Aaron, who is a romantic at heart and doesn’t approve of the “friends with benefits” choice between Sara and Ben, who was played in pilot by Fran Kranz (Dollhouse), is being recast. No reason was given for the casting change or who will take over the role. This is not the first time that this series has undergone a casting change. Before the pilot went into production back in April, actor Patrick J. Adams was replaced by Ryan Hanson.

**Update** – NBC has released information stating that Ian Reed Kesler has been let go from this project as well and they are in the process of recasting the role of Hoon. They also stated that Friends With Benefits will now be a mid season replacement show and not scheduled for the fall line up.

To answer your question…..”she feels like an old friend.”

That was Danneel Harris’ heartfelt and candid response to my question about what it felt like to be returning to the role of Rachel Gattina on One Tree Hill after a year’s absence from the role in this, EM’s second part to our two-part article series on the return of Danneel Harris/Rachel Gattina to the hit CW series One Tree Hill.

And what a busy year it has been for the talented thirty year old actress who originally hails from Lafayette, LA but has made Los Angeles, CA her home since moving there to take up acting. Since last appearing on the series back in season 5, Harris has worked on such projects as the independent movie Mardi Gras (which is still in post production), guest starring roles on such hit TV series as NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, CSI and CSI: Miami.  2009 really turned up the heat for the red-haired beauty who found herself not only on Maxim’s Hot 100 list of beautiful woman yet again (coming in at #28), but as the host of their MTV special high-lighting this year’s event.  In the early part of 2009, Danneel Harris  was out promoting the comedy movie Fired Up, in which she starred as a cheerleader.

In late spring and early summer, Danneel Harris found herself in front of the cameras again having gained roles in not one, but two upcoming big screen feature films: Screen Gems horror flick, The Roommate and CBS Films/Escape Artist’s comedy The Back-Up Plan starring Jennifer Lopez. Both movies are going into post production looking to release in early 2010.

And now she is on set in Wilmington, NC filming her return to One Tree Hill as the sexy, known to be a troublemaker, Rachel Gattina for the hit CW series’ 7th season (while also flying back and forth to NYC to finish filming The Back-Up Plan). EM caught up with Danneel Harris in between her hectic filming schedules to chat with her about coming back to One Tree Hill
