And when I say unleashed, I mean unleashed! The nine-disc blu-ray Star Wars release will include so many extras that it’s hard to know where to begin, but as a fan of the audio commentary, I say let’s start with two commentaries for each film – one by George Lucas and a handful of select cast and crew; the other put together from archival interviews with cast and crew.
Then, in addition to previously seen features, each trilogy gets a disc of never before seen deleted scenes, extended scenes and much, much more – and the final disc includes three brand new documentaries.

For a movie that came about because of fan reaction to a faux trailer that part of the full package of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse. The story – a Mexican federale named Machete and his partner attempt to rescue a kidnapping victim but it’s a trap, and the corrupt cop kills his wife and daughter. Three years later, in Texas – a corrupt politician’s equally corrupt top advisor hires Machete to shoot the politician but it’s a set-up and Machete is out for revenge – is typical B-movie fodder, but Rodriguez and Danny Trejo [as Machete] capture the extreme violence and savage wit of the best ‘60s and ‘70s exploitation flicks.

As promised, a bells & whistles release of James Cameron’s AVATAR will be in stores just in time for the holiday season. AVATAR: Extended Collector’s Edition [3-Disc Blu-ray, 3-Disc DVD] hits store shelves on November 16th. This edition includes three versions of the film [theatrical, extended theatrical and Collector’s Extended Cut] and two audio tracks [original and Family Audio Track – no objectionable language] – plus a swak of bonus features.

The Other Guys may be the funniest film of the summer, so far, but the funniest movie of the year, to this point, is April’s Date Night. The slightly unhinged [in a good way] fusion of romantic comedy and action flick starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey as an old married couple trying to kick a bit of pizzazz back into their humdrum marriage hits shelves today and well worth a look.

I’ll admit it – I didn’t see The Rocky Horror Picture Show, even though it played at a local theater many times during and after its initial release. I first encountered it at a Rocky Horror party at the local sci-fi convention, Con-Version several years later. I subsequently became a fan – though I prefer to actually watch the movie rather than sit in a roomful of people who are throwing toast at the screen.
Now, for its 35th anniversary, Fox Home Entertainment is putting together a Blu-ray debut release with a host of cool features. It’s enough to make a guy upgrade to hi-def! At least I’ve got ‘til October to scare up the cash…
