“The Grudge” is an English-dialogue version of the Japanese film “Ju-on” which I have not seen. Story is about a cursed house which eventually kills anyone who enters. It is a so-so horror flick and think an average made-for-tv movie, with some great special effects but dumb plot. GRADE = “C”
“Sideways”
“Sideways” tells the tale of two male friends from college who spend a week together just before one of them finally gets married. To me, it is just a two hour travelogue on California wine with some funny bits (mostly sex and nudity) disguised as a buddy/road trip movie. If you did not particularly care […]
The Ultimate Matrix Collection
So how many people are going to pick up the new and hopefully last release of The Matrix. It’s a nice little ten disc set.
“Surviving Christmas”
“Surviving Christmas” is a bland romantic-comedy starring Ben Affleck as Ben Affleck. Story deals with a rich loner who hates Christmas but decides to rent a family for that holiday. There are some funny moments, especially if you have not seen the trailers. Plot is very predictable, lots of attempts at slapstick, and the other […]
“National Treasure”
“National Treasure” is an adventure/heist/romance/treasure hunt movie. Story deals with an enormous treasure from ancient times hidden somewhere on the US east coast. You may find yourself becoming very exhausted watching all the lurching from here to there, the solving of clues, and the endless series of monologues. Basically for Nicholas Cage fans. Photography is […]

“The Polar Express”
“The Polar Express” is a magical animated feature for the whole family. (Have not read the children’s book which is the source.) Tom Hanks takes on at least four roles. The animation is ‘adapted’ from humans and sometimes looks very strange. Story deals with a young boy on Christmas Eve who takes a train ride […]
“Finding Neverland”
“Finding Neverland” is someone’s fantasy about how the author of ‘Peter Pan’ came to write the play. The reason to see this film is the excellent acting, especially by Johnny Depp. GRADE = “B”
“After the Sunset”
“After the Sunset” is a comedy/caper set in the Bahamas. Actually, should have been a summer release. Tells the story of a jewel thief who has retired but things get complicated. A pleasant diversion with a likeable cast. GRADE = “B”
“The Incredibles”
“The Incredibles” is an animated feature about a family of superheros who must not use their powers. Technically – it is terrific, but at about two hours it is unnecessarily long, especially for youngsters. Deleting all the scenes with the fasion designer and reducing the repetitive and ludicrous running scenes would improve the film. Most […]
Hype about Lost??
What’s all the hype about the new show Lost?? Can some one explain the story to me? I hear everyone talking about it, but I don’t understand how the show works…
