Minority Report – First Impression

Ok, I caught MR yesterday. Here are my incoherent thoughts. Keep in mind I’m a big Tom Cruise fan, but he’s made his share of crap (Vanilla Sky, Eyes Wide Shut, etc.) and I’ve never been a fan of Spielburg so I was never into the whole MR Hype.

I can’t say that I was disappointed in it, since I didn’t have high expectations to begin with. I thought it was fairly mediocre, it had good performances from everyone, but the special effects were pretty bad, the cinematography bored me after awhile (it was all blue and black), I thought Spielburg’s “vision” for the future was “bland” and “unimagative”, the stuff with how they worked the computers was retarded – it was like I was watching actors practice their idiotic “Miming” techniques, and the images going across the screen didn’t look coherent enough to get you involved in the story, I almost fell asleep several times during the first 50 minutes – the movie didn’t “start” until Cruise started to run and that was almost 45 or 50 minutes into the damn thing.

Even though this film is billing itself as an balls to the wall action flick, there’s very little in it. And what’s in it is very tame and non original. I don’t understand where the “Matrix” comparisons are coming from, there’s not a moment, a stunt, or anything in this film that remotely comes close or “compares” to “Matrix”.

At times I felt like I was watching The Imposter (w/Gary Sinese) again. It was almost the “same” film.

I would give it a C or C-/D+.
