Jam Master J – Thoughts

You know, I was shocked when I heard that Jam Master J from Run DMC was shot and killed a few days ago. I mean I grew up on Run DMC and remember seeing them and Dougie Fresh at one of those All Night Jams back in the Day. They were a big part of my high-school days, and the success of Run DMC spawned The Beastie Boys for my College days.

Run DMC never sunk to the level that today’s rappers sink to. They always kept Rap positive, fun, and most of all accessible to eveyone. Run DMC never got the public credit that they deserved for taking Rap Music to the level that it’s at now, and they never got the credit for “revitalizing” Aerosmith’s career and bringing Steve Tyler and the gang into the mainstream with their smash “Walk This Way.”

It’s funny because I haven’t given much thought about Run DMC until this weekend, and it’s sad that it takes a tragedy like this for people to start reflecting.

Jay’s like King Midas, as I was told,
everything that he touched turned to gold.
He’s the greatest of the great, get it straight he’s great. Claim fame cause his name is known in every state. His name is Jay to see him play will make you say: “God damn, that DJ made my day!”
