In Pretty Good Company

The beating heart of “”In Good Company””, the new comedy by Paul Weitz (half of the brother team that created “”American Pie”” and “”About a Boy””), is the relationship between Carter Duryea (Topher Grace) and Dan Foreman (Dennis Quaid, who seems to get craggier by the hour). Much like “”About a Boy””, this movie centers on two characters at distinctly different points in their lives who seem to connect, despite themselves.

Carter and Dan have very little in common; Carter is a 26 year old junior executive working for a large multimedia corporation (whose head Teddy K, is played by Malcolm McDowell and appears to be a sendup of Rupert Murdoch and Richard Branson). He tends to speak in buzzwords (
