EclipseMagazine Is Back, and Better Than Ever!!

Everyone sing like Eminem! “Guess whose back? Guess whose back?….” EM is back baby! Last week I was all doom and gloom, but this week we isolated the problems with the database, and fixed most of it. We managed to save about 90% of the data, all the member information has been recovered, as well as all of the articles.

We had to trim about 20 percent of the forum post – most of the stuff that was 2 years older or more, and we’re having a little trouble getting the news comments to display, but they do work, so when I turn the site back on later today you will be able to post comments on all of our news. Over the next few days we will be adding about 20 or 30 new stories.

The one thing you will notice is some of the articles will have bad formatting, when we repaired the site, some of the fixes ended up breaking the article format by stripping the html code, and paragraph spacing. I tried to fix most of the stuff on all the main index pages, and will go through most of the page 2 and 3s over the next few days. So for the last few days I’ve been going through and reformatting some of the articles, but we have over 1,600 articles so there’s no way I’m going to be able to fix everything, I will fix stuff as I come across it. Over the next few months I will be working on migrating over to a new system, but the gun has been removed from my head and I’m able to properly manage the migration. On the plus side, we’re back, mostly everything was saved, and now we can move forward. The site will be turned back on this evening.

For the people who donated to the site, please be patient, I will mail you your DVDs next week. I’ve been really slammed in February with being sick, traveling, and the site being down, but I’m back and am able to focus on EM. If you want to donate, I’ll bring the donate button back tomorrow, we have more cool DVDs to give to folks who donate $20 or more.

Now onto other things! I will be attending the Game Developer’s Conference later this March and will finally, finally launch the new Gaming Section, with complete coverage. I’m taking my beautiful new laptop that my friends at Alienware loaned me, and will be doing live up to the minute reports, tons of great interviews, live Podcasts, live video, and more, so stay tuned.

Again, thank you for your patience during this crisis, now that it’s resolved, I’m going to be rededicating myself to the site over the next few months, and once we’re on the new system – I hope to make the switch, by the end of April, and that it’ll be “seamless,” you’ll really see some amazing new features and stuff coming “online.”

Contests? You say you want contests? How about V-For Vendetta? How about some Star Trek Fan Collective: Borg Giveaways? How about “She’s the Man,” we have about 20 different giveaways we’ll be doing over the next three weeks!!!
