Skooba Design has launched a new tablet bag that boasts plenty of bells and whistles, yet weighs less than most of the compact devices it carries. The iPad/Tablet Courier V.3 — perfectly timed for the release of the comparably lightweight iPad Air — is an urban-inspired “north/south” messenger bag, 2 inches slim and vertically-oriented for low-profile space efficiency.
The Courier’s main compartment has a fully padded tablet sleeve that’s suspended on the back wall so it doesn’t touch the bag bottom, adding a measure of drop protection. There’s additional space in the main section for a few files, magazines or snacks. A separate, zippered accessory compartment on the front of the bag has padded pockets for gadgets, and other spaces for cords, keys, business cards and other small items.
Both the main compartment and accessory section are covered by an oversized weather flap, which secures with a one-handed clip, hidden under the flap for streetwise security and a clean, uncluttered look. The top flap also features a covered top zipper that allows quick access to the tablet without having to open the main flap. On the front of the flap, a gasket-sealed, waterproof zipper opens a small compartment for phone, glasses or similar need-at-hand items.
The Courier has a wide, seatbelt webbing shoulder strap with matte black finished metal swivel clips and a grippy shoulder pad. The shoulder pad can be slid off the strap for cross-chest carrying.
The iPad/Tablet Courier is the latest addition to Skooba’s flagship V.3 collection, and like the other bags in that family, is made of tough but lightweight micro-ballistic nylon that’s water-repellant treated and massively reinforced at all stress points. The front flap is trimmed with a sleek Hypalon panel (the stuff Zodiac boats are made of), and the bag is lined in Skooba’s distinctive, Atlantic Blue lining for a touch of color as well as easy visibility inside the bag.
Other high-end hardware and trim – down to a machine-bolted logo plate — round out the detailed finishing touches. Yet with all its features, materials and durability, the bag weighs a scant 20 ouncesThe new iPad/Tablet Courier V.3 will start shipping in early December, at a suggested retail price of $89.95.
