Blu-ray Review: Michelle’s Take on G-Force Blu-ray

As many of you know, I don’t review every movie when they are released into the theaters. If a movie looks like something I’d hate, there’s a very slim chance I would waste my time and money to see it on a big screen. Jerry Bruckheimer’s G-Force is such a movie, not only did I get beaten over the head with the marketing campaign, but let’s face it Hamsters that are spies? I’ve made it clear on numerous occasions, as a general rule I loathe talking animals. They creep me out man.

I thought I’d finally escaped this movie, but no, there’s a Blu-ray version of it, and darn-it it’s a Disney Blu-ray so I knew it’d probably be reference quality release. So like a dummy, I had to request a copy.  This is a sharp 2.40:1 transfer, not a blemish on it. This movie is ok enough but these are talking hamsters and I can’t get past that.  Not to mention no matter how many times I saw the name G-Force, I had a faint hope that it had to do with Battle of the Planets.

The English 5.1 DTS-HD Audio is nice enough but sounds muted and subdued in spots. Language tracks are French, Portuguese and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital. Subtitles are in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. The menu navigation is easy to use with very minimal amount of the “busyness,” that Disney disks are known for.

Comments

Ok, I’ll admit it I didn’t hate this movie as much as I thought I would, it’s Disney cute and harmless but the pop cultural jokes are terrible. The big bad guy reveal was funny as heck and made a strange sort of sense. It’s not a bad package but there’s no “Wow” here. The extras are nice on paper but are all way too short to be anything more than an expanded trailer. If you have a family then this will be a decent rental.
