Blade II – First Impression

This is not a review. Just an initial “impression”. I caught it this morning and I’m not sure whether I liked it or not.

The cinematophraphy was good, the majority of the scenes were well lit. The action sequences were well done – there is this great moment when Snipes gives this vampire guy a suplex! You just don’t see enough wrestling moves incorporated into action movies. I thought it was unnecessarily gross, for gross sake.

The plot was ok, it was farely unpredictable and kept you guessing through the first part. But then there were gaping holes in it, and things with certain characters that made absolutely no sense. I don’t want to spoil the film for you by giving you specific problems that I had with the plot.

What bothered me was how cheesy and cheap the film looked, and it seemed to lack the energy and charm of the first one. It felt like they were going through the motions to me.

If you twisted my arm to come up with a grade for it, I’d probably give it a C.
