Futures is centered around five brilliant millennials, who discover they are each owned by private shareholders who are banking on their future.
The Haints is a gritty sci-fi thriller set in the early 90’s where six African-American teens are implicated after a white female classmate goes missing.
Wood and Merritt’s pitches were selected from a field of over 1400 ‘diversity targeted submissions.’

The idea behind the pitch fest is that it’s an open forum for undiscovered storytellers looking to pitch the next great television series.
“Diversity is central to our Pitch Fest theme this year, as we continue to seek out voices that can authentically portray the world that surrounds us,” said Dawn Olmstead, Executive Vice President, Development, Universal Cable Productions.

Syfy and Universal Cable Productions are bringing the grindhouse into our homes with Blood Drive, a high-octane series given a 13-episode order by the network and produced by UCP.
According to the press release, Blood Drive is ‘set in a near-apocalyptic future’ and ‘centers around LA’s last good cop who is forced to join a twisted, gory cross-country death race.’

Dan Simmons’ epic sci-fi novel Hyperion is being developed as an event series by Syfy. Bradley Cooper and Todd Phillips (22nd and Green) will executive produce with Graham King (GK Films).
Boardwalk Empire’s Itamar Moses will write the series.

Jim Uhls (Fight Club, Semper Fi, Jumper) will be adapting Robert Charles Wilson’s Hugo-winning sci-fi novel Spin as a six-hour miniseries for Syfy. Spin is the first part of a trilogy that also includes Axis and Vortex.
The novel has a young scientist attempting to save humanity from impending apocalypse via a black cloud that has blanketed the planet, blacking out the sun and stars.
