Yo, Joe! Cobralalalalala…….There are three movies that deeply disturbed me as a sensitive child of the mid 70s and 80s – the first time I saw The Wizard of Oz, the flying Monkeys gave me nightmares – I still get nightmares to this very day about them, then there was the H.R. Puffingstuff movie and finally in the late 80s there was a little known, rarely shown movie version of the 80s cartoon series G.I. Joe. It was called G.I. Joe: The Movie and it basically gave a lot more color and back story to Cobra Commander – he’s really from another planet. If you read the recent 19 part Star Wars: New Jedi Order series about the invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong, it’s a blatant rip-off of the G.I. Joe movie. But this review isn’t about the G.I. Joe: Movie, it’s about the original G.I. Joe cartoon series which the later movie was based on. When I watched this series, I couldn’t help but get more and more ticked off at how much of a bastardization the upcoming Hollywood movie is going to be.

I’ve never been able to get into the Shield. Maybe it’s because I find it intimidating trying to watch the show at this point because of all the history behind it. Or maybe it’s, I have this thing about watching a show that glorifies dirty cops. But that’s just me. I understand a lot of you like it. And Season Six is coming in the next few months. Continuing directly after season 5, Vic and the Strike Team are distraught over Lem’s death. Shane has been overcome by guilt and becomes reckless and suicidal. Kavanaugh refuses to let the case die and resorts to planting evidence and coercing witnesses to lie about the Strike Team. Dutch and Claudette begin to suspect his integrity. Vic learns from Claudette that the Chief plans to force him into early retirement — and vows to wreak bloody vengeance on Lem’s killer before losing his badge. Claudette learns that the Barn could be shut down if no improvements are made by the time quarterly crime statistics are released. Check out a ton of clippage.

I’ve been meaning to catch Rescue Me for awhile now. And never could find the time to watch, I have no idea when it airs. But a lot of folks that I know really like it. And I like Denis Leary well enough and love Gina Gerson – nice to see she’s working. I’m going to have to put Season One in my Netflix Que. Check out the release below and some clippage.

Ummm….When I first saw that headline, I was like yeah! Get Smart, finally on DVD. Yes, I know you can get the over priced Time Life set, but I was looking forward to watching the original series again. I never really got into it as a kid, but maybe I’ll appreciate it now. Digging further into the press release, imagine my disappointment to see it was for the 1995 version of the show. Scary. The DVD streets June 3. Here’s some clippage and the full press release.
