BBC America’s The Last Kingdom is a complex tale of ‘redemption, vengeance and self-discovery set against the birth of England.’

The eight-part series follows Uhtred, a young warrior, as he attempts to reclaim his birthright after Danish invaders kill his father and rout the Saxon army.

First Look: The Last Kingdom!

BBC America’s The Last Kingdom – a historical drama set in the Kingdom of Wessex, the last kingdom to resist the invading Vikings – will be sneak previewed during the third season premiere of Orphan Black on Saturday.

The series is based on The Saxon Novels of Bernard Cornwell and has been adapted for television by Stephen Butchard. It’s international cast includes Alexander Dreymon, Rutger Hauer, Matthew Macfayden, David Dawson, Emily Cox, Ian Hart and Rune Temte.

BBC America’s The Last Kingdom Begins Production!

Production has begun on BBC America’s The Last Kingdom – based on the The Saxon Stories, the series of bestselling novels by Bernard Cornwell (also known for his excellent Sharpe novels).

Set in the 9th century, many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Vikings, only the great Kingdom of Wessex stands defiant under its visionary King Alfred the Great (Dawson). It is the last kingdom.

The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreymon, the cast includes: Rutger Hauer, Ian Hart and Matthew Macfayden, among other. The series is being adapted by BAFTA-winning writer Stephen Butchard and executive produced by Butchard, Gareth Neame, and Nigel Marchant. For more, follow the jump.

BBC America Renews Orphan Black, Broadchurch; Adds Tatau!

The Clone Club Continues! Orphan Black will return for a third 10-episode season.

Broadchurch (now being adapted, well, by Fox for the U.S.) will also return with original cast members David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill being joined by Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge joining the show.

As well as the previously announced The Last Kingdom, BBC America is also adding Tatau, from the makers of the original Being Human, to their schedule. Like The Last Kingdom, production will begin in the fall. For more details follow the jump.

BBC America Announces Fall Production Start for The Last Kingdom!


BBC America has ordered eight one-hours episodes adapting Bernard Cornwell’s (the Sharpe novels) The Last Kingdom for television. Production is set for a fall start.

The Last Kingdom is set in 872 when many parts of what is now England have fallen under Viking sway excepting the kingdom of Wessex, ruled by Alfred the Great. The series follows Uhtred, son of a Saxon nobleman orphaned by the Vikings and then kidnapped and raised as one of their own.

The Last Kingdom is being adapted by BAFTA nominee/Royal Television Society award-winning writer Stephen Butchard (House of Saddam, Good Cop). For more, check out the press release following the jump.
