As loathe as I am to plug any of far, far too many music awards shows, The 2014 American Music Awards® has piqued my interest by garnering a performance from Lorde. The Kiwi artist writes impressive tunes and performs them in a way that reminds of Joe Cocker, though more subdued – and her vocal abilities are very different.
It’s just a shame that the announcement of Lorde’s performance had to include the appearance of the insipid One Direction.
The 2014 American Music Award® will be broadcast live on Sunday, November 23rd. I will be paying attention for about four, or five, minutes.
The American Music Awards claim the distinction of being the world’s biggest fan-voted awards show and features nominations that reflect what’s current a great deal better than (sigh) the Grammys.
This year’s nominees were announced by Jason Derulo and Charli XCX. The most nominated artists include Iggy Azalea, Beyoncé, Lorde and Katy Perry. The full list – by category and by artist – follows the jump.
The American Music Awards will air on ABC, Sunday, November 23rd (8/7C).
