Kenya Barris, creator of black-ish, will receive the Rod Serling Award for his work on the series, which tackles themes like prejudice, greed, cowardice, abuse of power and narrow-mindedness – and specific subjects like police brutality and voter suppression.

Established by Ithaca College, the award honors Rod Serling and his pioneering efforts in the television industry. Serling taught at the college from 1967 to 1975.
