Gustav Klimt’s most famous painting – so famous it’s a postcard! – was taken from its Jewish owners by the Nazis and wound up in a Vienna museum after World War II.
Woman In Gold was also a portrait of Maria Altman’s Aunt Adele. She wanted it back so she sued the government to reclaim it. Helen Mirren stars as Maria Altman in the film Woman In Gold along with Ryan Reynolds as Radol Scoenberg, the lawyer who represented her throughout.
