Sony has a slew of new Blu-ray announcements today and while I think the titles would be really cool. I really have to question Sony’s continued commitment to the format they have tried to push on everyone for the last three years. This is their format and every title they put out should be a show case title. Not featureless catalogue releases. And when they do put out catalog releases they should push include all the Bells and Whistles. It’s ok for their rivals to half ass it, but not the company who is responsible for the format. Here’s their latest:
Air Force One
“Get off my Plane.” One of the great action movies, Air Force One is coming to Blu-ray, June 2, 2009. Each Blu-ray includes e-Movie Cash via BD-Live for the new movie The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, in theaters 6/12/09. In Air Force One Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) stars as President James Marshall who finds himself in the precarious situation of holding the fate of his family and the entire nation in his hands when Russian terrorists hijack the presidential plane. This Blu-ray includes a Director’s commentary track for a MSRP of $28.95.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
The terror continues when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases I Still Know What You Did Last Summer on Blu-ray Disc for the SRP of $28.95. The sequel to the blockbuster horror flick will stalk its way to store shelves on July 14, 2009. Jennifer Love Hewitt (“Ghost Whisperer”) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (Scooby-Doo) reprise their roles as Julie and Ray, the two surviving teens from last summer’s nightmarish massacre. Still trying to put the horror behind them, they decide to take a vacation in the sunny Bahamas. But this tropical paradise soon turns into a hellish holiday as their new companions fall prey to a murderer who bears a striking resemblance to the hook-wielding killer of the past summer. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that reaches its full horror potential on Blu-ray™ — the silences are creepier, the screams louder and the murders gorier, all enhancing the frightfully fun experience. Accompanying the Blu-ray is a “Making-of” Featurette and music video performed by Jennifer Love Hewitt. Blu-ray Features include – The Making of Featurette and “How Do I Deal” Music Video – Jennifer Love Hewitt at a MSRP of $28.95.
The Deep
Dive into suspense with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Blu-ray Disc release of The Deep on July 7, 2009. Based on the best-selling book by Peter Benchly (Jaws), The Deep is a subterranean thriller that resurfaces in Blu-ray High-Def for the SLP of $28.95. The underwater adventure stars Nick Nolte (Lorenzo’s Oil) and Jacqueline Bisset (Forbidden) as a couple whose lives dramatically change after discovering a hidden treasure. Following the discovery, the characters embark on a deadly sea mission where they discover that the mysteries surrounding the buried treasure go much deeper than the ocean floor. The high-definition remastering gives new vibrancy to the vivid coral reefs, exotic tropical fish and crystal Caribbean waters. Special features include deleted scenes and extended scenes designed to further extend the underwater adventure. Blu-ray includes Deleted, BD-Live and Extended Scenes. MSRP is $28.95.
Glory
I’ve saved Sony’s best Blu-ray release announcement for last. Glory is getting the full Blu-ray treatment. The heart-stopping story of the first black regiment to fight for the North in the Civil War, Glory stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman. Broderick and Elwes are the idealistic young Bostonians who lead the regiment; Freeman is the inspirational sergeant who unites the troops; and Denzel Washington, in an Oscar® winning performance (1989, Best Supporting Actor), is the runaway slave who embodies the indomitable spirit of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts. Blu-ray Features include –
* NEW Virtual Battlefield – Interactive Civil War Guide Map (Blu-ray Exclusive)
* Director’s Commentary
* The Voices of Glory
* The True Story of Glory Continues Narrated by Morgan Freeman
* Original Theatrical Making-of Featurette
* Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary
* Crisis of Conscience
For the last time, Sony is not solely responsible for the Blu-ray format, a whole consortium of companies — the BDA — is. Sony didn't even invent the format alone, Sony & Philips did conjointly, and Warner and Panasonic are also major patent holders in the format; stop claiming Blu-ray is SONY's format — sheesh.
nICE. I looking for DVD Forbidden, A True History with Jackie Bisset for a long time. Someone can help me to find where I can buy?
