Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, announced today that TNT has picked up the acclaimed police drama, Southland. “This is a great win for fans of Southland and a perfect opportunity to introduce the series to new viewers,” said Koonin, “It’s also another outstanding example of how TNT has established itself as the go-to place for the best dramas on television.”
TNT has picked up all thirteen Southland episodes [seven from season one; six from season two] and will air them from the beginning on January 12, 2010.
The announcement comes less than two weeks after the series was cancelled by NBC because they claimed it wasn’t suitable for the 9 o’clock timeslot preceding the Jay Leno Show – something they were already aware of when they renewed the series – having already given Leno the Monday-Friday 10 o’clock timeslot before they picked up Southland for a second season.
NBC cancelled Southland because it wasn't suitable for the timeslot before Jay Leno? that's one of the most ludicrous excuses i've heard in a while. good for TNT for picking them up 'cause they have another hit on their network. BOO for NBC!
