Boyhood Producer-Writer-Director Richard Linklater to Present Three Favorite Movies on TCM in September

Award-winning filmmaker Richard Linklater, whose most recent film, Boyhood, garnered rave reviews and became a box office hit this summer, is coming to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in September to serve as Guest Programmer. Linklater, who burst onto the scene with his independent hit Slacker in 1991 and went on to earn Oscar® nominations for Before Sunset in 2004 and last year’s Before Midnight, will join TCM host Robert Osborne to present three of his favorite films on Thursday, Sept. 4, beginning at 8 p.m. (ET).

Linklater’s selections will begin with the powerful drama Some Came Running (1958), starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine. He calls it a “wonderful melodrama” with “a film artist behind it” in director Vincente Minnelli. Next up is what Linklater calls “a great heist film,” John Huston’s film noir classic The Asphalt Jungle (1949), starring Sterling Hayden, Jean Hagen, Sam Jaffe, Louis Calhern and James Whitmore. The evening concludes with the theatrical version of Ingmar Bergman’s nostalgic drama Fanny and Alexander (1982), which Linklater calls “one of the best films about a child’s perspective on the world.”
