It’s midnight so I’ll make my comments quick. I really wasn’t planning on watching the Oscars, but two hours into the broadcast I decided to check it out on my Tivo. The opening number with Neil Patrick Harris was a great start, loved the opening bit with Steve and Alec, very funny stuff. I was surprised that UP won Best Animated Picture, I didn’t see that one at all. The first 15 minutes of that movie was the best thing I saw all year, the problem was the rest of the movie didn’t live up to it. But I’m happy to see it win.
- I loved, loved, LOVED the John Hughes Tribute. It was sad, uplifting and classy, just like the man himself.
- What was the deal with Monique’s attitude? You just won an Oscar, no one cares that you didn’t like the “Politics!” Be grateful take your award and shut up!
- Sandra Bullock looked awful and like she had a bad face lift and nose job, but her winning wasn’t shocking. A few weeks ago I said her nomination was because she broke the glass ceiling for women making money at the box office, so her winning the Oscar in this weak Actress year, makes sense.
- Hurt Locker winning Best Picture stunned me and made me happy. Inglourious Basterds winning would have made me giddy. I thought for sure the fix was in for Avatar.
- As I said in the beginning, the Animation category was the best category of the night and it was great that Up won.
- 90 Percent of the presenters were boring and about as bland as you could get. The one stand out moment was Robert Downey, Jr I loved his line gnomes and beautiful people – the problem is he is funny every time he’s at an event like this so it’s starting to seem a bit, I don’t know…. Ben Stiller, just no…
- I liked that Star Trek got at least one award
- They spread the awards around this year, seemed like almost every major film got something
- The nominated music category this year was horrible, I’m glad they didn’t have musical performances this year. What was up with that odd Dancing thing towards the end it seemed so out of place.
- Bring back Steve and Alec they were great together and all of their jokes worked well. Loved the don’t mess with Clooney bits.
I would give this show a solid B. It was good, fast paced – especially if you skip over all the fluff.
