The Hollywood Reporter says that HBO has signed Kathryn Bigelow – who might well win the Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker – to shoot the pilot for The Miraculous Year.
Despite her limited experience in television [three episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street and an ep of Karen Sisco], Bigelow was courted to direct The Miraculous Year pilot, a light family drama with a flamboyant character at the center – not much like her usually gritty fare [Near Dark, K-19: The Widowmaker].
The John Logan [Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street] project is described as “an examination of a New York family as seen through the lens of a charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer.” Logan and Bigelow are executive producing alongside Lydia Pilcher [The Darjeeling Limited].
