One of the cooler cop shows to debut over the last few seasons, Memphis Beat [TNT, Tuesdays, 9/8C], is back and more soulful than ever. In the second season premiere, At the River, detectives Dwight Hendricks and Charlie ‘Whitehead’ White are split up as Internal Affairs looks into the actions of a murdered police officer.
TNT has announced premiere dates for its summer season – including the launches of its two big new series, Falling Skies and Franklin & Bash. The Steven Spielberg production/Noah Wyle headlining Falling Skies will have its two-hour premiere Sunday, June 19th, while the Mark-Paul Gosselar vehicle, Franklin & Bash premieres on Wednesday, June 1st.
TNT’s full summer lineup – along with network blurbs – follows the jump.

New Shows like Covert Affairs and Pretty Little Liars seemed to come out of nowhere to become hits, while reliable standbys like The Closer, Breaking Bad and Mad Men maintained their positions and won big at the Emmys. And for off the charts nasty fun, there was, once again, True Blood.
With the fall season getting underway [The CW and FX have already introduced new shows and the big guys are following over the next couple weeks], it’s definitely time to take a look at the best of this past summer and offer a couple of comments on the few new shows that we’ve seen debut over the last week.
Note that I have not included Mad Men in my summer list because I simply did not have time to include it in my schedule. A separate overview for MM will appear once the new fall season premieres have appeared.
TNT’s new cop show, Memphis Blues [Tuesdays, 10/9C] is a moody piece that features a detective/Elvis impersonator called Dwight Hendricks [Jason Lee]. He has his way of doing things and that way is comfortable for him and everyone else in his precinct, but especially his partner, Charlie “Whitehead” White [Sam Hennings] – and everyone respects his “feelings.” And he moonlights as pretty good Elvis impersonator in his off hours…
