I love watching Musicals where I “learn” something new or discover that some of my favorite songs were written by the same person. One of the biggest and most celebrated musicals of the last few years – The National Tour ofBeautiful – The Carole King Musical iscurrently doing an extended stint (October 6 – 25th) in Washington, DC at The Kennedy Center.
Finding Neverland is one of the hottest tickets on Broadway right now and the show is undergoing some changes. Starting with Broadway veteran Terrance Mann (Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserable) will take over the roles of “Charles Frohman” and “Captain Hook”. The show is released it’s new upcoming fall/winter schedule. Starting November 3rd, the show is cancelling it’s Wednesday evening performance in favor of adding Sunday evening shows. The new show will now have performances Tuesday at 7:30pm; Wednesday at 2pm; Thursday at 7:30pm; Friday at 8pm; Saturday at 2pm & 8pm; Sunday at 3pm & 7:30pm. I desperately need a Broadway weekend!
Bombshell – the Marilyn Monroe musical that was being rehearsed on NBC’s now-canceled series Smash – is being readied for life as an stage production following a successful, one night event concert staged as a benefit of the Actors Fund.

I make it a point not to watch award shows, but one of my favorites is The Tony Awards, which airs tonight on CBS. While Finding Neverland was surprisingly snubbed this year, they are going to have a big presence at the show. In order to promote their brand new Album, they will be performing tonight, J-Lo, Nick Jonas, and Kiesza will do the introductory honors. Finding Neverland – The Album is a collection of songs from the musical reimagined by some of today’s biggest stars.
If you happen to be in NYC this Wednesday, this is a friendly reminder that the Broadway League’s newly annual Broadway’s Stars in the Alley is happening from 10:30 – 12:30 rain or shine in the Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th Avenue and 44th and 45th Streets. Guess I have to get a Junior’s Cheesecake and since I’m going to be there, you just know it’s going to rain. Grrr…. But it’s one of my favorite events of the year. Where else are you going to see 19 of the top Broadway shows performing in an outdoor concert for free? Hosted by Hedwig and the Angry Inch star Darren Christ it’s a celebration of Broadway and a non-official rehearsal for the Tony Awards which airs June 7th.
One of my favorite events of the year is the Broadway League’s “Stars In The Alley event. It’s a free event where most of the active musicals on Broadway put on a free concert for the public in the alley by NYC’s famed Shubert Theatre. Over 15 shows are participating in this event making it a great way to get a taste of the best of Broadway. It’s sort of a preview/dress rehearsal for the Tony Awards – without the pomp. The full line-up for this year’s show, hosted by Hedwig and the Angry Inch Star Darrin Criss is below.
