Queen honored on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Can’t believe I missed this until now… apparently it happened last Friday (10/18)………

LOS ANGELES, California — British rock band Queen has been honoured with a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The star marks the achievements of band members Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Taylor and the late Freddie Mercury.

The result of a campaign by Queen’s American fans, the star now means the flamboyant rockers join the Beatles to become one of only a handful of non-U.S. bands to earn a place on the famous pavement, the UK’s Press Association reports.

The honorary mayor of Hollywood, Johnny Grant, unveiled the star on Friday in front of the Ivar nightclub on Hollywood Boulevard, with May and Taylor in attendance.

The band is currently setting chart records in the U.S. with the recently released Queen Platinum Collection album hitting the Billboard Top 100 chart at number 48.

This makes the record the highest charting multi-release album in history.

Meanwhile in Britain, the band’s musical We Will Rock You, which opened in London’s West End in May, remains the UK’s biggest selling show, according to PA.

Recipients of the Hollywood Walk of Fame stars are chosen from hundreds of nominations and ratified each year by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors.

Winners must then pay around £11,000 ($17,000) for the honour which covers the dedication ceremony and the making of the star.
