I really wasn’t going to do an Oscar Predictions piece this year, because frankly, just not into it. I’m missing the big show tonight because I’ll be watching Demi Lovato do Let It Go live at VA Patriot Center. Overall, I think this is a pretty solid year for Oscar Nominations – no clear choices in any category.
Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence, I don’t like either of them (I know, I’m in the minority) are locks. Don’t be surprised if somehow Nebraska sneaks in and takes the big award. It is a movie that will appeal to the older Oscar voters and they almost always vote for the film that doesn’t get the buzz. Here are my choices, without commentary…
- Best Picture – Will win – Gravity, Should win – 12 Years a Slave
- Best Actor – Will win – Leonardo DiCaprio, Should win – Chiwetel Ejiofor
- Best Actress – Will win – Cate Blanchett, Should win – Amy Adams
- Best Supporting Actor – Will and should win – Jared Leto
- Best Supporting Actress – Will win Jennifer Lawrence, Should win – Lupita Nyong’o
- Best Animated Feature – Will win Frozen, Should win – The Wind Rises
- Best Cinematography – Will win Gravity, Should win – The Grandmaster
- Best Costume Design – Will win American Hustle, Should win – The Great Gatsby
- Best Directing – Will win Gravity, Should win – 12 Years a Slave
- Best Documentary – Will win The Act of Killing, Should win 20 Feet from Stardom
- Best Film Editing – Will and should win – Gravity
- Best Foreign Language Film – Will and should win The Broken Circle Breakdown
- Best Makeup – Will win Dallas Buyers Club, Should win The Lone Ranger
- Best Original Score – Will win Gravity, Should win The Book Thief
- Best Original Song – Should and will win Let It Go (I cannot stand that stupid song Happy it makes me mad!)
- Best Costume Design – Will win American Hustle, Should win The Great Gatsby
- Best Directing – Will and should win Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón)
- I think Gravity will pick up most of the Technical awards
