As many of you long time readers know, I’m not a big fan of doing lists or year end reviews, but somehow I always find myself doing one. I usually complain about what a bad year for movies we just had, but 2013 was mostly a solid. There wasn’t much that blew my mind, but most of the things that I saw was solid B or B+ and not much that was truly awful. Originally, I couldn’t even remember 10 films that I’ve seen, much less loved, but once I thought about the year, it actually pained me to stop the list at 16.
I walked out of two films this year Only God Forgives (truly awful) and 12 Years A Slave – not because I thought it was bad, but because it was a really tough film to sit through. I’m glad I watched it again because it truly was one of the best of the year.
Before you hit the jump or scroll down, please note – for me, a movie is a movie and I don’t care whether it was a made for TV film or one made for the theater. I say this because I need to somehow justify having one of the funniest cultural phenoms – Sharknado on my list 🙂 Everytime I see a drop of water or pass by a stream I think, “Yeah, a Shark can totally come out of there.”
My favorite film is sort of a four way tie between Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special: The Day of the Doctor, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Deluxe Edition), Fast and Furious Six and Saving Mr. Banks.
