Unfortunately, due to my recent Eye Surgery and Paramount Pictures screening shenanigans (I raise my fist and cry fowl, FOWL!) it will probably be a few weeks before I can experience Trek. For those of you lucky enough to have peepers, see Star Trek: Into Darkness as it was meant to be seen on a real 7 or 10 story tall iMax Screen, not those FakeMax’s in the malls.
The DMV is lucky enough to have several real iMax theaters where you can see it. Paramount’s Star Trek Into Darkness opens at the Airbus IMAX Theater at the Steven F.Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va., today, May 15, and in IMAX 3-D at the Samuel C. Johnson IMAX Theater at the National Museum of Natural History May 31. Tickets to see the film at the Hazy Center are on sale at www.si.edu/imax.
Tickets to see the film at the Johnson IMAX Theater go on sale Friday, May 17, on the same website. Seeing a big Sci-Fi film at the Steven F.Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. You not only get to see how Hollywood envisions the future. The only drawback is parking is $15 at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. That does include free admission to the the Air and Space museum.
It is amazing and depressing watching Sci-Fi films in this theater. The audio, video quality can’t be beat of the theater itself and just being in an environment where you can see the genius and drive towards greatness this country once had. Seeing the Space Shuttle in person is awe-inducing. Then going in to see a sci-fi movie like Oblivion or Star Trek and realize due to petty politics this country is no longer capable of achieving great things is kind of sad.
Several key sections of the film that feature big-action set pieces have been captured with IMAX cameras. Exclusively in IMAX, sequences filmed with high-resolution IMAX cameras will expand to fill the entire screen and further immerse the audience in the vast dimension and adventure of this highly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s Star Trek. The IMAX presentation of Star Trek Into Darkness has been digitally remastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX Digital Re-Mastering technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theater geometry and powerful digital audio, create an environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
