Everyone and his dog’s network seems to be going after some epic franchise or other. For the recently rebranded Esquire Network, the choice is one of the all-time classic epics – they have acquired ITV’s take on the story of Beowulf.
Judging from the first trailer for the series, it works really well. Check it out after the jump. Beowulf premieres on January 23rd.

Unwittingly in search of a cause to believe in and a community to fight for, Beowulf finds himself wrongly accused of murder and hunts down the true perpetrator to avenge the death of his fellow kinsmen. Beowulf becomes Herot’s tough but unconventional hero, responsible for upholding the law and protecting the town from danger. The last of a dying breed, Beowulf is a man capable of shaping the world around him by his actions and force of will. While this may seem like a familiar tale, Beowulf unearths the full story of the complicated, driven man behind the lore.
Beowulf has arrived. Kieran Bew, William Hurt and Joanne Whalley come together in a new retelling of the epic legend, where a haunted warrior finds new foes beyond the Mudborn and within his kinsmen. Beowulf premieres January 23 on Esquire Network.
